Supplemental Campus Use Rules for HMS/HSDM

October 3, 2024

Dear Members of the HMS and HSDM Community:

In August, Harvard released a set of Campus Use Rules formulated by a cross-University working group, which established a common baseline of policies for the use of shared campus spaces.

These rules are intended to promote orderly event planning and noncompeting space use; set expectations for compliance with federal, state, and local laws as well as University and school policies; and ensure community safety and well-being. Their release included an acknowledgement that Harvard schools may supplement the University-wide rules for the spaces they oversee.

We are writing today to provide supplemental Campus Use Rules for our Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Dental Medicine campus spaces. As you will see, this local guidance has been integrated into the University-wide Campus Use Rules and is labeled and indented to create a single, transparent resource for our community. We encourage you to read and familiarize yourself with these rules.

We take seriously our responsibility to ensure that all members of our community can pursue their core purpose for being here: to learn, to study, and to serve. Creating an environment united by consistent rules and shared expectations will enable us all to do so.

Thank you for being part of our community and for all you do to exemplify and advance our mission and values.

Sincerely,

George Q. Daley
