PROGRESS

PROGRESS (PROfessional GRowth and Educational Support System) is designed to support the academic success of Harvard medical students. PROGRESS internally follows students’ academic performance throughout the curriculum to support formative feedback and opportunities for learning support and coaching for success. A student may be referred to PROGRESS for a holistic review of their academic performance by any of the following: society advisor, course director, clerkship director, or PCE Director. A student may self-refer to PROGRESS if they are seeking recommendations for learning support outside of the formal curricular schedule.

The PCE Core Faculty are dedicated student educators integrated into each of the required core clerkships. They support students’ clinical learning and development through direct observation, feedback, and longitudinal assessment, and provide hands-on guidance in developing students’ clinical competencies, skills, and knowledge within individual clerkships. These positions are designed to significantly enhance the clinical education and growth of students during the PCE year. Clerkship site directors at each PCE site can address any inquiries regarding core faculty.

Clinical Learning Coaching Program (CLCP)

Provides clinical learning and performance coaching at all levels with active clinical faculty. It is a non-evaluative, safe space for support in areas such as: integrating core knowledge for clinical learning, clinical reasoning, oral presentation and other clinical skills practice, professionalism skills, and strategies for clinical vignette-type questions in shelf and step exams. To be referred for coaching, students should discuss with their Society advisors and/or self-refer to PROGRESS. Students who want to learn more about the coaching program can contact Jean Klig, MD.
