Academy Fellowship for Medical Educators
Participants of this program:
- Develop and enhance teaching skills for classroom and clinical settings
- Gain expertise in curriculum develop
- Advance knowledge on educational science and theory
- Acquire knowledge and skills to become educational leaders and change agents within academic communities
- Develop expertise in quantitative and qualitative research
- Complete a scholarly project that supports the HMS mission
- Join a community of HMS educators dedicated to enriching and advancing the field of medical education
Eligibility
The program is open to HMS faculty and senior clinical or HMS curriculum fellows. Applicants should have a current or planned teaching career with HMS (quad- or HMS affiliated hospitals-based) and ability to fully commit 10% time for all fellowship activities (including class and self-study time).
Application
The application form includes a request for a brief bio, description of prior and current commitment to medical education, as well as an approximately 500-word description of a proposed project. You will also be asked to upload a cover letter, your HMS CV or NIH biosketch.
The next application cycle will open in the spring of 2026.

Medical Education Day
(Annual event, fall)
Medical Education Day consists of poster and technology presentations of both completed projects and works-in-progress related to the education of medical students, house staff, and faculty in the areas of curriculum development, assessment, faculty development, education research, or educational technology enhancements. The afternoon also features workshops, seminars, a plenary session, and a keynote address.
Symposium on the Science of Learning
(Annual event, spring)
Two renowned guests discuss an overarching theme from a scientific standpoint. The theme, chosen by Academy leadership, is usually related to the theme being covered throughout the year.
Medical Education Grand Rounds
(Monthly event, fall and spring)
Medical Education Grand Rounds are a series of 1.5-hour monthly sessions during the academic year in which local and visiting speakers present on subtopics in medical education.
Faculty Development Series
(Biweekly event, fall and spring)
Our faculty development sessions are a series of 1-2 hours sessions during the academic year in which HMS Faculty content experts present on a variety of topics pertaining to teaching medical students at HMS. The layout of these sessions varies and can be didactic, interactive or both.
