Dear Members of the HMS and HSDM Community:
Coretta Scott King, wife of Martin Luther King Jr. and civil rights leader in her own right, once said, “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”
By this metric, our community stands out and has proven time and again to bring exceptional energy, generosity, and compassion to all aspects of our mission. While most obvious in the selfless service of our clinicians, the compassionate action of our faculty extends to the nurturing of the next generation of scientists and the inspirational teaching offered in our medical, graduate, and external education programs. And I am constantly moved by the dedication of our administrators and support staff who likewise embrace and facilitate our mission to enhance human health and well-being for all.
Many of you have told me that you were drawn to HMS because of our mission and remain here because the work that you do brings meaning and satisfaction. In my State of the School address in September, I noted that the HMS mission attracts and empowers a community of strivers who are working toward deeper scientific understanding and a more just, equitable health care system. I’ve elaborated on this sentiment in the 2024 Dean’s Report, now available online. I hope that in reading it, you feel a sense of pride in our community. I certainly do.
These sentiments resonate especially during the holidays. Please click below for a brief holiday message that echoes this theme. However you choose to spend your winter recess, I hope you enjoy the waning days of 2024. For those who continue to support our campus and work during the winter recess, our gratitude and thanks for your commitment and dedication.
I look forward to the New Year with great anticipation that the compassionate actions of our community will continue to make for a better world.
Sincerely,
George Q. Daley
