Applicants to the Master of Medical Sciences in Medical Education program should have a strong interest in advancing medical and health professions education through teaching, curriculum design, assessment, educational leadership, and scholarship. The program is especially well suited for health professionals who already excel in their fields and want to apply their expertise toward improving how health professionals are taught and trained. In addition, preference may be given to candidates with demonstrated experience or ongoing responsibility in education, teaching, training, curriculum development, or educational leadership.

Application Requirements

• Online application: All applicants must create a user account via Harvard Medical School’s application portal. You may save your application and return it later if you need more time to complete it, but please submit all materials by the application deadline. All supporting application materials must be submitted through the online application system.
• Curriculum Vitae: provides a summary of your experience, education, skills, awards, and any research/medical publications.
• Letter of Intent: No more than three pages in length, describing interest in the program, qualifications, and area of research interest
• Three Letters of Recommendation: Applicants must provide the email addresses of three recommenders in the application system. These recommenders will receive instructions to upload the letter of recommendation, and we require recommenders to submit their letters through our online system.
• Transcript(s): Applicants upload unofficial transcripts to the online application. Transcripts must be in English or accompanied by an official English translation.
• $100 USD application fee
• TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test are required for applicants who received their undergraduate or graduate instruction in any language other than English. Please note that applications will not be reviewed until the program has all of the documentation mentioned above, along with three letters of recommendation.

Degree Recognition

Students pursuing online degrees should note that the governments of some countries may not formally recognize online degrees earned from foreign institutions. This could impact students who wish to enroll in other academic programs or seek employment with governmental agencies or employers that require specific credentials. Harvard Medical School cannot confirm that its online degree programs will be recognized in or meet requirements to comply with distance education regulations in any particular non-U.S. country. It is the responsibility of each student to determine how the laws and regulations of any particular non-U.S. country, including those related to degree recognition, apply to participation in Harvard Medical School programs.
