Marcia Haigis steps down as Director Gender Equity for Faculty in Science at HMS.

Marcia Haigis, Ph.D., Professor of Cell Biology in the Blavatnik Institute at Harvard Medical School, served as the inaugural Director of Gender Equity for Faculty in Science at HMS. In her role, she collaborated with faculty and the HMS dean’s office to identify areas important for gender equity in faculty development, including mentoring, leadership, and career training. Dr. Haigis also assisted with coordinating efforts to prioritize and implement these activities at HMS.

Dr. Haigis is a Professor in the Department of Cell Biology at HMS, a member of the Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging, and the Ludwig Center at HMS. Following graduate training in biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Dr. Haigis studied mitochondrial metabolism during her postdoctoral research at MIT. She has contributed to understanding the role that mitochondrial sirtuins play in metabolism and disease. She has received a number of honors, including the Ellison Medical Foundation New Scholar Award and the Brookdale Foundation Leadership in Aging Award, and was selected for the National Academy of Medicine's Emerging Leaders in Health and Medicine Program
