Funding

The HMS Foundation Funds Program administers the nomination process for HMS/HSDM faculty and postdocs for Limited Submission Funding Opportunities (LSO’s) from private foundations. Limited submission opportunities require candidates to be nominated by either Harvard Medical School or Harvard University.

The HMS Foundation Funds Program selects nominees on a semi-annual (fall/spring) schedule. Current funding opportunities can be found on the award listings page.

The Eleanor and Miles Shore Faculty Development Awards Program (Shore Program) strives to support the Faculty of Medicine at the level of instructor and assistant professor by administering a range of award opportunities to support academic activities for vulnerable faculty balancing early careers with significant personal responsibilities. This program is offered through the Office for Faculty Affairs

A two-year, non-degree Faculty Fellowship Program for Harvard Medical School (HMS) junior faculty that enables fellows to pursue activities that enhance their development as researchers and clinicians/teachers, leads to their advancement within the Harvard system. The Program will provide two years of fellowship support in the amount of $50,000 per year intended to provide release time from clinical work to conduct an individual, mentored research project, participate in Fellowship-related activities, meet regularly with mentors, and present research findings at the annual Meetings

Harvard Medical School faculty members have a rich history of receiving distinguished prizes and election into honorary societies for groundbreaking biomedical research. The Distinguished Prizes website lists awards available for HMS faculty to be nominated.

The external distinguished prizes are generally defined as awards that are unrestricted and reward individuals for work that has had significant impact on biomedical science. HMS offers this resource to assist faculty to identify and search for appropriate distinguished prizes and awards, to explain the nomination process for different classifications of awards, and to increase the number of Harvard Medical School faculty who are nominated for awards.
