Veronica Ravnikar, associate clinical professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive biology, who practiced at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, died unexpectedly, but peacefully, at her home in Cohasset on July 15, 2011. She was 61.
Dr. Ravnikar received her bachelor’s degree from Immaculata College in Pennsylvania in 1971 and received her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in 1975. She continued her medical training in Chicago, completing her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Prentice Women’s Hospital of Northwestern University. She then completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Boston Hospital for Women and Harvard Medical School. Throughout her career, Dr. Ravnikar dedicated herself to her patients, teaching and research. Her most recent efforts were to bring evidence-based principals and academic standards to community-based practice in obstetrics and gynecology.
Among Dr. Ravnikar’s many hospital and academic appointments, she was most recently also the chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at South Shore Hospital. She received numerous awards for her contributions to her field.
Dr. Ravnikar is survived by her husband of 36 years, Leonard Sicilian, MD, of Cohasset; her three children, Gregory C. Sicilian of Atlanta, David J. Sicilian of Boston, and Victoria E. Sicilian of Hoboken, NJ; and her siblings Maria, Lydia and John, of Long Island, NY.
