The Longwood Symphony Orchestra (LSO) has unveiled a new program for this, its 28th season. The orchestra, made up of musicians from Boston’s medical community, will perform four concerts at the New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall. Each will raise funds for a community organization.
Artistic director Jonathan McPhee will lead the orchestra in performing works by Wagner, Sibelius and Elgar, as well as the Boston premiere of David Kechley’s Wakeful Visions and Moonlit Dreams.
This season’s concerts begin at 8 p.m. They are:
Oct 2, 2010: Poetry & Romance. Works by Jean Sibelius and Frederick Delius, violinist Zina Schiff. LSO community partner: Sociedad Latina.
Dec 4, 2010: Chemistry & Courage. Music from Alexander Borodin and Richard Wagner, soprano Joanna Porackova. LSO community partner: The Art Connection.
Mar 19, 2011: Imagery & Inspiration. Boston premier of David Kechley’s Wakeful Visions and Moonlit Dreams, music by Ralph Vaughan Williams. LSO community partner: Vasculitis Foundation.
May 14, 2011: Youth & Friendship. Works by Dmitri Shostakovich, Franz Schreker, Malcom Arnold and Edward Elgar. Performance by winner of the 2010 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Charlie Albright. LSO community partner: Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence.
