More than half of people hospitalized for medical reasons are given highly addictive prescription painkillers, often in large doses, according to a new study. Shoshana Herzig, HMS instructor in medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, is the lead author. Research by David Bates, HMS professor of medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, is cited.
