Eleven scientists, most of them American, were scheduled to be named on Wednesday as the first winners of the world’s richest academic prize for medicine and biology — $3 million each, more than twice the amountof the Nobel Prize. Eric Lander, HMS professor of systems biology, is one of the recipients, as is Lew Cantley, founding member of the HMS department of systems biology, recently named director of the Cancer Center at Weill Cornell Medical College and New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
