Five HMS researchers have been elected fellows of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Academy. Election recognizes scientists whose contributions have driven significant innovation and progress in the fight against cancer. Only those whose work has made a profound and lasting impact on cancer research and related fields are considered.
“These remarkable individuals represent a diverse array of scientific disciplines and have made transformative contributions to cancer research,” said Margaret Foti, chief executive officer of the AACR.
The new AACR fellows from HMS are:
- Bradley Bernstein, HMS professor of pathology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, for seminal contributions to cancer epigenetics.
- David E. Fisher, the HMS Lancer Professor of Dermatology and Edward Wigglesworth Distinguished Professor of Dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital, for trailblazing research in melanoma and ultraviolet (UV)-related carcinogenesis.
- A. Thomas Look, HMS professor of pediatrics at Dana-Farber, for revolutionary discoveries pertaining to the molecular pathogenesis of leukemia, lymphoma, and neuroblastoma.
- William Sellers, HMS professor of medicine at Dana-Farber, for vital contributions to cancer genomics and drug discovery.
- Leonard Zon, HMS professor of stem cell and regenerative biology and Grousbeck Professor of Pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital, for fundamental research contributions to the establishment of zebrafish as a viable and effective model for the investigation of hematopoiesis and cancer.
New fellows will be recognized at the AACR annual meeting in April in Chicago.
Two researchers from Harvard Medical School have been elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), one of the world’s largest general scientific societies and publisher of the Science family of journals.
The two new AAAS fellows from HMS are Shingo Kajimura, HMS professor of medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Carla Kim, HMS professor of pediatrics in the field of regenerative medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital.
