Two faculty members from Harvard Medical School are among the 65 newly elected fellows of the American Academy of Microbiology, the honorific leadership group within the American Society for Microbiology.

The American Society for Microbiology is one of the largest professional societies dedicated to the life sciences and is composed of more than 37,000 scientists and health practitioners. Its mission is to promote and advance the microbial sciences.

The two new fellows from HMS are:

  • Judy Lieberman, HMS professor of pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital
  • Ramnik Xavier, the HMS Kurt J. Isselbacher Professor of Medicine in the Field of Gastroenterology at Massachusetts General Hospital

Two HMS researchers have been named 2025 fellows of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB).

Fellows are selected for exceptional and sustained service to the ASBMB and accomplishments in research, education, mentorship, diversity and inclusion, advocacy, and service to the scientific community.
