Honors received by HMS faculty, staff, and students

Five HMS early-career researchers received 2022 Scholar Awards from the American Society of Hematology, which support hematologists conducting basic, translational, or clinical research as they transition from training programs to careers as independent investigators.

The 2022 recipients from HMS and their awards are:

Junior Faculty Scholar Award, which supports individuals who hold independent faculty level positions early in their careers

Giada Bianchi, HMS instructor in medicine at Brigham and Women’s

Fellow to Faculty Scholar Award, which supports individuals preparing to compete for independent faculty-level positions

Divya Vinjamur, HMS research fellow in pediatrics at Boston Children’s

Eugenio Morelli, HMS instructor in medicine at Dana-Farber

Fellows Scholar Award, which supports individuals preparing for academic careers

Livius Penter, HMS research fellow in medicine at Dana-Farber

Franziska Wachter, HMS clinical fellow in pediatrics at Boston Children’s


Brianna Duncan-Lowey, a 2022 graduate in the HMS PhD Program in Virology, and Jaeeon Lee, a recent graduate of the HMS PhD Program in Neuroscience, were awarded the Harold M. Weintraub Graduate Student Award by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The Weintraub Award recognizes outstanding achievement in graduate studies in biological sciences.


Joan Reede, dean for diversity and community partnership at HMS, was included in STAT's 2022 STATUS List. The STATUS List recognizes standout individuals in health, medicine, and science.

Reede was recognized for her efforts to promote diversity by recruiting and supporting faculty from underrepresented groups at HMS, which have contributed to the representation of people of color on the HMS faculty more than doubling since 1990.


Edward Lee, HMS associate professor of radiology at Boston Children’s, was awarded the 2022 American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) Gold Medal, which honors distinguished service to radiology.

Lee was recognized for advancing pediatric thoracic imaging with innovative techniques and for his efforts to improve radiology education. He will be honored at the ARRS annual meeting in May.
