Application Deadline
We invite you to apply and join our community of educators who are transforming health. Applications for those entering the Master of Medical Sciences in Immunology program in 2026 are now open.
The admissions committee begins reviewing applications in January and continues on a rolling basis. Applications are considered in the order in which they are received, and enrollment is limited. We therefore encourage candidates to submit their materials as early as possible to ensure full consideration.

Required Materials
- Online Application: The application will request information on the applicant’s contact information, education, professional experience, and unofficial transcripts. The online application will include a place for recommenders to upload recommendation letters.
- Personal Statement: Your statement should be no more than three pages in length, describing your interest in the program and your qualifications.
- Curriculum Vitae
- Three letters of recommendation: Follow the instructions in the online application form to notify your referees. Your referees will upload their letters directly.
- Transcript(s): You will be asked to upload your (unofficial) transcripts while completing the online application. This is all that is required to be considered for the program. Please note that if accepted, Official transcripts must be submitted prior to matriculation.
- GRE or MCAT score: To send your official GRE scores directly to the program, use code 3812. MCAT scores can be submitted via email to mmsc_imm@hms.harvard.edu as a Printable Score Report, which includes a verification code to verify the report’s authenticity.
- TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test (required for applicants for whom English was not the medium of instruction for their undergraduate or graduate degree): Applicants must score a minimum of 103 (TOEFL iBT), 11 (TOEFL Essentials), 7.5 (IELTS), or 130 and satisfactory programmatic review of the writing and video samples (Duolingo English Test) to be considered for the program. To submit TOEFL scores, use code 3151: Harvard Medical School Graduate Education Master’s Programs.
- Application Fee: All applicants to HMS Master’s Programs are required to pay a $100 application fee.
All materials must be received, and the application fee must be paid by the posted deadline to be considered. Please note that applications are considered on a rolling basis, and admissions may close earlier than the posted deadlines if all spots are filled.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a minimum GPA or GRE/MCAT score?
No, there is no set minimum GPA or GRE/MCAT score requirement to be considered.
Are there prerequisites I need to complete prior to applying?
In order to apply for the MMSc IMM program, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with a strong background in biology and have an interest in immunology, medicine, or biomedical research. The program is also open to individuals who already possess a medical degree, such as MD, DO, or MBBS, or to individuals who have a degree in a health professions-related field. There are no specific prerequisite courses required in order to apply, however, knowledge of cell biology and molecular biology would be helpful.
How should I submit my letters of recommendation?
You will be asked to provide contact information for your recommenders in the online application system. Your recommenders will receive an e-mail with instructions to upload their letters of recommendation. You will be able to track the status of each letter.
What is the cost of the program?
Please see the Immunology column in the Master’s Student Cost of Attendance Budget. These rates are subject to change each academic year.
Does the program provide any funding?
Unfortunately, the MMSc IMM program does not have any funding opportunities available at this time. When will I hear back with a decision about my completed application?
Completed applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, however, typically applicants will begin receiving decisions in April.
