Dear Members of the HMS Community:
As you may have heard, this afternoon the U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the small explosion in the fourth-floor hallway of the Goldenson Building early Saturday morning.
The arrests were made by a multi-jurisdictional team that included the Harvard University Police Department, FBI, and local and state police departments. We want to thank them, as well as the security and emergency management teams at HMS and our neighboring institutions, for their responsiveness and coordination.
Importantly, there is no ongoing threat to public safety in connection with this incident, nor with the individuals involved. The security of and access to the Goldenson Building has been reassessed and is secure. The building is fully operational and open and accessible to those who work there, as noted in our community email Sunday evening.
We understand that anxieties are high, and news of this ordeal may be upsetting. Please remember that safety and well-being resources are available. HUPD will maintain an increased presence on the Longwood campus, which we hope will provide an added sense of comfort and security to our community.
While the investigation remains ongoing, we want to express our deep appreciation and respect for the members of the public who came forward to provide tips and other helpful information on this case. Thank you on behalf of our entire community.
Sincerely,
