Please note: LMA suttles are only available to employees of MASCO and LMA member institutions. Valid ID is required.

Traveling on the MBTA

The MBTA offers train and bus services throughout the Longwood Area. The best travel options are listed below. Please visit the mbta.com to plan your own route and for information on travel fares. The MBTA also offers mobile apps and a service alerts notification system for real-time service updates and transit information.

Discounted Student MBTA Pass

Harvard Medical School offers an 11% discount on MBTA passes for HMS students. Passes are purchased as a four-month bundle available both in the fall semester (September – December) and/or the spring semester (February – May). Payment cannot be deducted from the student’s term bill. Students will be notified through email when The MBTA passes are available for pickup. Passes can be picked up at the HMS Financial Aid Office.

MBTA Fares Overview

Via Subway

Green Line D train – Take train to Longwood station. From station, turn left on to Chapel Street and walk up short hill to Longwood Avenue. Turn left on to Longwood Avenue.

Green Line E train – Take train to Longwood Medical Area station. From here, proceed down Longwood Avenue towards the hospitals. Harvard Medical School is about a 5 minute walk from the Longwood Medical Area Station and will be on your left.

Via Bus

No. 8 between Harbor Point/UMass (Red Line) and Kenmore Square via Boston Medical Center, and Ruggles Station (Commuter Rail, Orange Line). LMA stops: along Avenue Louis Pasteur, Longwood Avenue, and Brookline Avenue. Buses arrive every 12 minutes during rush hour.

No. 39 between Forest Hills, Copley, and Back Bay (Orange Line, Commuter Rail). This route follows E Line to Arborway and continues to Forest Hills. LMA stops: along Huntington Avenue. Buses arrive every four minutes during rush hour.

No. 47 between Central Square, Cambridge and Broadway via LMA and Ruggles Station (Commuter Rail, Orange Line). LMA stops: along Avenue Louis Pasteur, Longwood Avenue, and Brookline Avenue. Buses arrive every 20 minutes during rush hour.

No. 60 between Chestnut Hill and Kenmore Square via Brookline Village. LMA stops: along Brookline Avenue. Buses arrive every 17 minutes during rush hour.

No. 65 between Brighton Center and Kenmore Square via Brookline Village. LMA stops: along Brookline Avenue. Buses arrive every 20 minutes during rush hour.

No. 66 between Dudley Square and Harvard Square via LMA (Brigham Circle), Brookline Village and Allston. LMA stops: Brigham Circle. Buses arrive every 10 minutes during rush hour.

No. CT2 (Crosstown) between Kendall Square, MIT (Cambridge) and Ruggles Station via LMA. LMA stops: Brookline Avenue, Longwood Avenue, and Ruggles Street. Buses arrive every 20 minutes during rush hour.

No. CT3 (Crosstown) between Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Logan Airport via LMA, Andrew Station and Boston Medical Center. LMA stops: Avenue Louis Pasteur, Longwood Avenue, Brookline Avenue. Buses arrive every 20 minutes during rush hour.
