Robert Langer, HMS senior lecturer on surgery and the David H. Koch Institute Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is developing a gel that can vibrate up to 200 times a second – replicating the action of human vocal cords – to rejuvenate the damaged voices of singers. He plans to test it for the first time in 2012 with Steven Zeitels, the Eugene B. Casey Professor of Laryngeal Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital.
