The Joint Committee on the Status of Women (JCSW) elected two new co-chairs for the 2011/2012 academic year during the joint meeting in May. Aun Em, HMS IT help desk coordinator, is the staff co-chair; the faculty co-chair is Fiona Fennessy, assistant professor of radiology and director of the Cancer Imaging Program Fellowship at Dana–Farber Cancer Institute.

During their one-year terms, Em and Fennessy aim to implement some of the proposals outlined in the committee’s five-year strategic plan. A primary focus is the JSCW Childcare Summit planned for October. The event will follow up on a successful January Summit, which highlighted a need for affordable, high-quality child care options for the HMS community.

“The goal of this year’s summit will be the development of a family child care network focused on providing child care that is closer to home and offers flexible hours at lower price points than other types of care,” said Em.

The JCSW also will focus on launching a redesigned website, increasing JCSW membership and building diversity within the group.

The next JCSW meeting is on September 8. For further information or to join, please visit the JCSW website or email JCSW _Admin@hms.harvard.edu.
