Making connections at Harvard Medical School, and finding a way to take advantage of its many resources, can sometimes prove challenging for new faculty members, especially given the large size of the faculty and its broad geographic distribution across 17 affiliated hospitals and research institutions.
To assist new faculty and educate them on how to better navigate the intricacies of life at HMS, the Office of Faculty Affairs has been sponsoring a series of faculty orientations for new junior faculty since 2010.
Previous participants unanimously agree that they would highly recommend the orientations to other HMS faculty. They have also said they found various individual elements of the program very valuable, including the opportunity to meet academic leaders such as HMS Dean Jeffrey Flier, and getting the chance to learn more about the promotions process, career development, teaching opportunities and work-life balance.
Other program highlights include a career development panel discussion and a networking reception following the event. Click here to view a video of a previous panel discussion.
An upcoming fall orientation event is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14, from 3 to 6 p.m., in the Waterhouse Room in Gordon Hall. Click here to register for this event.
