Donald Berwick, HMS lecturer on health care policy and former administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will address Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Dental Medicine degree candidates on May 23 as Class Day speaker. Berwick has championed the interests of patients and consumers while simultaneously speaking out on the need to ration health care and cap spending.

“Don Berwick is one of the leaders in improving health care quality in this country,” said Barbara McNeil, Ridley Watts Professor and head of the HMS Department of Health Care Policy. “There are few individuals, if any, who have his depth of understanding of both grass roots and policy issues in improving health care in this country today. He is aninspiration to all physicians.”
