If you are borrowing loans for the 2026-27 academic year, please complete the steps below to ensure the timely disbursement of your loan funds.

Step 1: Federal Direct Loan Entrance Counseling
If you are borrowing a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan for the 2026-27 academic year, before your loan can be disbursed, you must complete online Federal Direct Loan Counseling.
- To complete Federal Direct Loan Counseling please go to https://studentaid.gov.
- Go to the “Grants and Loans” section and click on the link “Loan Entrance Counseling.”
- Complete section titled “I am a Graduate or Professional Student.”
- To complete your entrance counseling, you will need your FSA ID Username or e-mail address and FSA ID Password. If you do not have an FSA ID Username and password, you can create one by going to the link “Create an FSA ID” on the log in page.

Step 2: Master Promissory Note Loan Signing
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan
If you are borrowing a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan for the 2026-27 academic year, before this loan can be disbursed, you must complete an electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN).
- Please go to https://studentaid.gov to complete your MPN for your Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan.
- Go to the “Grants and Loans” section and click on the link “Master Promissory Note (MPN).”
- Complete the section titled “I’m a Graduate/Professional Student.” Choose “MPN for Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans.”
- To complete your promissory note, you will need your FSA ID username or email address and FSA ID password. If you do not have an FSA ID username and password, you can create one by going to the link “Create an FSA ID” on the login page.
- Once you have logged in, you will need to supply some personal information. Be prepared to provide your permanent address, driver’s license number, and state. You will also need to provide the name, address, and telephone number of two individuals who have known you for at least three years and will be able to provide your contact information should your lender have difficulty getting in touch with you (one of these references should be a parent or legal guardian).
In the school information section, choose “Harvard University - Harvard Medical School.”
Institutional Loan MPN
If you are borrowing an HMS Revolving Loan or a Wolfson Loan for the 2026-27 academic year, you must complete an electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN) before your loan can be disbursed.
Please note: You will receive an email from webmaster@ecsi.net when your loan promissory note is ready to be signed.
Step 1: Go to the ECSI MPN Loan Signing webpage.
Step 2: Click on “Begin the electronic signature process” located at the bottom of the page.
Step 3: Provide your student ID number, first and last name, and date of birth.
Step 4: Enter your ECSI Pin when requested for authentication and follow the prompts to sign your institutional loan promissory note. If you have any questions about the loan signing process, please contact ECSI at 888-549-3274 or cservice@ecsi.net.
