Departmental responsibilities

The HMS Department categories shown in the second blue tier of the above figure are recognized as appointing departments in the Harvard Faculty of Medicine; affiliate-based academic departments shown in the third (light blue) tier are delegated aspects of responsibilities for proposing appointments to the Harvard Faculty of Medicine in the HMS Clinical Academic Department in the corresponding clinical discipline. HMS academic appointments for faculty whose effort and employment are primarily located in affiliate-based departments without any delegated appointing responsibilities are hosted by an affiliate-based academic department in the corresponding clinical discipline.
