New technique enables rapid, high resolution imaging of entire fruit fly brain and mouse neuronal circuits

Combining two recently developed technologies—expansion microscopy and lattice light sheet microscopy— researchers at Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Janelia Research Campus, MIT and Harvard Medical School have developed a method that yields high-resolution visualizations of large volumes of brain tissue. Their approach enabled them to image an entire fruit fly brain, as well as large sections of mouse cortex.
