The Master of Medical Sciences in Immunology program is designed for students with a strong undergraduate biology background and an interest in medicine or fundamental research, as well as academic physicians who seek an in-depth knowledge of immunology to further their professional goals and research expertise.
The prerequisites are an undergraduate degree, a strong background in biology, and an interest in immunology, medicine, or biomedical research. The program is also open to individuals who already possess a medical degree, such as MD, DO, or MBBS, or to individuals who have a degree in a health professions-related field. There are no specific prerequisite courses required to apply; however, our most successful applicants demonstrate an interest in research.
The mission of the Master of Medical Sciences in Immunology program is to provide a robust, research-based education. Our program focuses on two primary goals:
Foundational Knowledge: To equip students with a comprehensive understanding of basic and clinical immunology. This foundation will enable them to grasp the revolutionary advancements in treating diseases such as immunodeficiencies, allergies, chronic inflammatory diseases, transplantation, and cancer.
Research Excellence: To provide students with the essential tools and dedicated time to engage in mentored research on significant issues in either basic or clinical immunology, based on their interests. This involves working with leading Harvard faculty and culminates in a master's thesis.
