Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long are lectures and when are they available?
The lectures are approximately one hour in length and are posted twice weekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Lectures may be viewed at your convenience but should be viewed prior to submitting related assignments.

2. How many assignments are there and when are they due?
There are two or three individual assignments related to lectures per month. The time to complete these varies, but you will have no less than one week in which to submit them. Assignments have non-negotiable due dates. Late assignments are only accepted in extenuating circumstances by petition. Teammates may (and are encouraged to) discuss the assignments amongst themselves, though each individual is expected to submit his or her own original work.

3. How much time should I plan to dedicate each week to the program?
The average time for viewing lectures and completing homework is 4-6 hours per week, but this will vary depending on the homework schedule and each individual's understanding of the content.

4. There are two (2) team assignments in each year of the course. How are teams formed?
Teams are formed without regard to location, so most "meet" online through programs such as Skype or Google Hangout. Team assignments typically are ongoing, with presentations being due at scheduled intervals throughout the program. There may be weeks without any team meetings and then some weeks with hours of team meetings -- but team members determine their own meeting schedules.

5. Are workshops optional?
No. Full attendance at all workshops is a requirement for participation in and completion of this program.

6. How are workshops structured?
Workshops are held at faculty institutions in the specified cities. Workshops are led by Harvard faculty and supplement the course lectures, providing the opportunity for applied instruction and interactive learning. Workshops also provide opportunity for students to meet one-on-one with Harvard faculty.

7. When will I know what to expect at each workshop?
Workshop programs are finalized and sent four to six weeks before each workshop.

8. What is the cost of the program?
There is no tuition to participate in the program, it is free of charge to admitted students. However, the statistical software, Stata, and any recommended books you may wish to purchase are not included. The estimated cost for these is approximately $600 US.

9. What are other expenses I may incur?
Accommodation at workshops is not provided. Many students, especially once they get to know each other, opt to share rooms to lower these expenses even further.
