Five Year M.D. Program

Some students may wish to allocate a larger fraction of their time to research than is possible in the nominal four-year program. By extending the MD program to five or more years, it is possible to devote significantly more time to research. There are many ways to accomplish this objective; one example is shown below. Another common arrangement is to dedicate one or more full years exclusively to research.

Years IV and V 

Arranged as in the Years III and IV four-year program, allocating available elective time to research. Core clerkships must be completed by the end of March of the final year.
In addition, students must complete Part I and Part II of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (National Boards) and the final year Comprehensive Exam.
