Master in Healthcare Quality and Safety

Master in Healthcare Quality and Safety

As the healthcare paradigm shifts toward reimbursement models that are linked to value and outcomes, healthcare organizations are tasked with operationalizing and improving patient safety and quality of care. To address this growing mandate, the Harvard Medical School Master in Healthcare Quality and Safety (MHQS) program provides world-class instruction and training aimed at preparing clinicians to work effectively in and lead quality improvement and safety initiatives.

Designed to accelerate the learning and development process, this residential, one-year degree program combines theory and research with unparalleled exposure to best practices and research from Harvard's academic medical centers and community hospitals. As a student of this program, you will develop the operational skills required to lead quality and safety initiatives within your own healthcare organization.

The carefully designed curriculum encompasses five key areas: operational quality and safety, informatics, leadership, quantitative approaches, and risk—culminating with a capstone experience in which students develop a solution to an evidence-based healthcare delivery issue. Working alongside a professional mentor, you will apply the tools, strategies, and methods from didactic courses to address a challenge that aligns with your goals and interests.
