Email Accounts

Email accounts are automatically created for faculty, staff, and incoming students when they join Harvard Medical or Dental School. Faculty or staff members can:

Note: HMS email is not HIPPA compliant. If you need to send sensitive information please use our encrypted file transfer service.


Locked Account & Password Reset

eCommons account password will expire once a year or it is common that users may lose or forget their password at some point after creating it. If, at any point after creating a password, you are unable to access it, HMS has setup a convenient way for you to create a new password or to unlock an account by following one of the options listed on the Accounts & Access page.


Spam Filtering

Harvard University uses Proofpoint to block incoming spam so that it doesn't reach your Inbox. 

Proofpoint will intercept spam messages for the following HMS/HSDM email domains:

Sending Files Larger than 20 MBs

Secure File Transfer services allows users to send large files that are unable to fit in an email (> 20MB). To learn more about secure file transfer services at HMS please visit the Secure File Transfer Services page.


Mailing Lists

Mailing lists are used for discussion on a specific topic as well as to distribute announcements.

Mailing list ownership is available to faculty, staff and students in the HMS/HSDM community. The mailing list's owner is responsible for maintaining and managing the list's content and subscribers.
