Commuting Programs

HMS partners with CommuteWorks of the Medical Academic and Scientific Community Organization (MASCO) to provide MBTA, rideshare, shuttle, walking and biking options in order to make commutes stress free and cost efficient.

CommuteWorks

MASCO is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing Boston's Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA) for the benefit of those who live, work, study or receive care in the area. Contact CommuteWorks at 617-632-2796.

Commute Fit Program

CommuteFit is a fun incentive program that rewards LMA commuters who incorporate walking, running or biking into their daily commutes.

BLUE BIKES - Bike Share Program

Bluebikes is Metro Boston's public bike share program, with over $2,500+ bikes and more than 260+ stations across Boston, Brookline, Cambridge and Somerville.  It's a fun, affordable and convenient transportation option for quick trips around town

Emergency Ride Home Program

CommuteWorks will pay to get you home in an emergency.

CommuteSwap

CommuteSwap allows you to leave your car at home and swap for a new commute option—risk free! If you are a drive-alone commuter with a parking space that is payroll deducted, you are eligible to enroll in CommuteSwap and put your parking space on hold for three months. You can either try the T and have CommuteWorks pay for it or try Workout to Work and receive extra benefits.

Personalized Commuting Assistance

CommuteWorks can provide you with a personalized commuting itinerary and identify your complete travel options for getting to the LMA, including information on commuter rail, subway, bus, shuttles, ridesharing, biking and walking.

Karma Commuting

As employees and students commuting to the LMA, we compete on a daily basis for scarce space on roads, public transit and sidewalks to find the fastest way to work or class. Every pedestrian, driver, rider and cyclist fulfills an important role in this community. The Karma Commuting campaign serves to remind us that when we all follow the rules, everyone gets to their destination more safely and faster. What goes around, comes around.

Benefit of Payroll Deduction

The cost of a Harvard parking permit can be reduced by up to 35% if it is paid for through automatic payroll deduction. The Internal Revenue Service allows employers to exclude the cost of parking for eligible commuting employees from state and federal payroll taxes. This means that when you use payroll deduction your Harvard parking permit fee is subtracted from your gross earnings before taxes are applied.

We want to bring you continued opportunities to reap the rewards of your commuting choices and keep you informed and up-to-date on other benefits you have access to as carpool and vanpool commuters.
