Question 1: What is the ISA?
Answer 1: The Independent Student Assessment (ISA) is a student-run survey that evaluates different aspects of HMS: curriculum, student services, faculty & administration, activities & student life, and facilities & campuses. The questions are a mix of some questions required by the LCME and others created by students here at HMS. Therefore, many of these questions are specific to HMS. Students on the Student Leadership Team are responsible for analyzing the survey and creating a report of the results.

Question 2: How long will the ISA take to complete?
Answer 2: The ISA should take around 15-30 minutes to complete.

Question 3: What types of questions will be included in the ISA?
Answer 3: The ISA primarily consists of multiple choice questions that ask students to rate their satisfaction with different aspects of HMS. At the end of the survey, there is also a text box for elaboration and additional thoughts.

Question 4: Who sees the results of the ISA?
Answer 4: The results of the ISA will be compiled into a report in March 2018. Results will be anonymized and reported in aggregate. This report will be distributed to the administration of HMS (ex: Dean Hundert, Dean Saldana, etc.). They will then know what is going well but also be able to address any issues that may be revealed by this survey. A summary of the results will also be available to all Harvard University affiliates. The goal is that the survey leads to improvement of many factors of our education at HMS for the future classes. Ultimately, this report will be included in the LCME documentation that is submitted for the accreditation process by HMS.

Question 5: Will I receive anything in exchange for the time I spend on this survey?
Answer 5: Yes! We value your time and would like to express our gratitude for your participation in this survey. M1s, M2s, and HST M3s will have protected time to take the survey as part of their coursework in the pre-PCE or PCE curriculum, and a meal will be provided during the survey party for your class/program. More senior students will receive a $10 gift card for their participation. There may also be surprise incentives!
