Comments and Discussion

HMS staff member (name withheld by request) Communicating with PhDs and PostDocs Countway Librarians would strongly support SAGE recommendation 3.1. We currently have no way of communicating with the PhDs and PostDocs who are scattered throughout laboratories at affiliated institutions. Consequently they don't know about our many new biomedical informatics databases, our classes and workshops, as well as the reference support we have available. As a recent blog posting by an HMS student illustrated, they desperately need these services. It is true that the student and postdoc populations are widely dispersed and this often makes communication efforts difficult. However, working together with the Division of Medical Sciences and the Office for Postdoctoral Fellows, information can be made readily available to PhD students and PostDocs. Each of these offices has access to their own populations via email or otherwise, so while the strategic planning process continues, let’s make the appropriate connections within our existing community to serve the immediate needs of students and Postdoctoral Fellows.
