Faculty of Medicine Policy on Conflicts of Interest and Commitment

Harvard Medical School (HMS) is currently in the process of reviewing and updating the HMS Faculty Policy on Conflicts of Interest and Commitment, which has been in effect with periodic modifications since 1990. The last revision took place in academic year 03-04. This policy is one part of the HMS Policies on Integrity in Science.

Conflict Disclosure in Medical Education

In 2008, the HMS Curriculum Committee formally adopted policies that require disclosure of conflicts of interest in undergraduate medical education and prohibit pharmaceutical representatives on campus. The written policies appear in the 08-09 HMS Student Handbook, within the Conflict of Interest (PDF) Section (4.14).
