Jack Szostak, HMS professor of Genetics at Massachusetts General Hospital, received the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, along with Elizabeth Blackburn and Carol Greider, for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase.
