Office of Enrichment Programs / Division of Service Learning

About Us

The Office of Enrichment Programs (OEP)/ Division of Service Learning (DSL) works to enhance the curriculum by engaging students in learning experiences that develop their understanding of local and global communities. OEP/DSL consists of programs in Research, Community Service, International Studies, and Language Training. OEP/DSL activities allow students to develop the skills, knowledge, understanding, and research and service experiences necessary for professional competencies. OEP achieves its mission by:
  • Advising, mentoring and guiding students,
  • Providing a wide array of out-of-classroom experiences, including co-curricular projects, events and seminars,
  • Linking students and faculty with information resources,
  • Teaching language skills necessary to practice medicine in other cultures,
  • Assisting students to develop independent, funded projects, and
  • Providing service learning opportunities within the classroom.

OEP/DSL maintains an extensive database of research, international and community service opportunities, as well as fellowships, scholarships and other funding sources. (The database is only accessible with a Harvard ID.) OEP/DSL also publishes a weekly e-Newsletter for all students, sponsors workshops and lecture series and has an internal website through MyCourses with information, resources, events, news, application forms and much more.

These fellowships include (but are not limited to) the Fulbright Scholars Program, the Zuckerman Fellowships, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellowships, the Doris Duke/Pasteur fellowships, the Fogarty Ellison Overseas Fellowships in Global Health and Clinical Research, and the traveling fellowships available through the Harvard University Committee on General Scholarships.

    INDEPENDENT STUDY
