If detected early enough, Selkoe and other researchers believe the disease’s onset can be prevented or delayed. “I was very impressed by what they are doing in that field,” says Wimberly, whose three grown children, he says, inherently worry about their own risk and who join him in his commitment. “We all agree we should do all we can to progress knowledge in this area.”
