The Dean's Discretionary Fund ensures the ongoing success of HMS. This fund provides for student scholarships and fellowships, faculty salary support, research initiatives, equipment purchases and upgrades as well as the renovation and upgrade of facilities, and more.

Because of the extraordinarily rapid pace of progress and change in science and medicine, Harvard Medical School benefits enormously from flexible funding in several core areas. The School is uniquely positioned, through our own powerful intellectual resources and our University-wide collaborators, to lead the global revolution in biomedical research, social sciences research, and in medical education. All these efforts advance our understanding of human disease and enhance our ability to treat it. But to accomplish our mission, we must be prepared to act, in a variety of circumstances, on new opportunities as they arise.
