Helping advance the HMS mission by promoting the responsible conduct of research.

About Us

The Office provides independent oversight of Harvard Medical School's research compliance programs, activities and processes. The Director, who reports to the Dean of the School of Medicine, through the Dean for Faculty and Research Issues is responsible for coordinating and monitoring these programs to assure that the Medical School is compliant with federal, state and local laws and regulations as well as University and HMS policies. The Office was established in 2001 to continue the University’s commitment to adhering to the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and responsibility.

Mission Statement

The Office of Research Compliance is dedicated to advance a culture of ethics, integrity and compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies which govern institutions of higher education through awareness programs, monitoring and responding to non-compliance.  Our commitment to compliance includes the development of general and specific training, policies and appropriate oversight and monitoring to assist members of Harvard Medical School’s community in conducting research activities based upon the highest standards of integrity and excellence through teamwork and professionalism.
